Lunar New Year Celebration, Temporary Road Closures

Lunar New Year Celebration, Temporary Road Closures

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 20, 2026

Victoria, B.C. – The Victoria Police Department is advising the public that there will be traffic disruptions as thousands are anticipated to celebrate Lunar New Year on Sunday, February 22, 2026.

The Victoria Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association will be hosting the annual event from 9:00 a.m. to approximately 5:00 p.m. In years past, roughly 5,000 spectators have joined the downtown celebration. This year they are celebrating the year of the horse.

VicPD will be present in the area managing temporary road closures and providing traffic control to help maintain community safety through the event.

The 500-block of Fisgard Street will be closed to all vehicular traffic from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Police and Reserve Constables will also accompany lion dancers as the participants wind their way around local businesses, following an opening ceremony and parade at 11:30 a.m.

The lion dancers will be following two routes in the Chinatown neighbourhood – including parts of Government Street, Pandora Avenue, Douglas Street, Store Street, and Herald Street.

Road users should be mindful navigating around larger crowds gathered for the event; and they’re encouraged to use alternative routes, where possible.

VicPD is proud to be present with the community as people celebrate the fun, family-friendly event.
