Victoria Police Department Provides Update on Weekend Demonstrations

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 9, 2026

Victoria, B.C. — The Victoria Police Department (VicPD) is providing an update in relation to the weekly Palestine demonstrations.

Last week, there was one incident that required police intervention. Aside from this, demonstrations have remained largely peaceful.

VicPD will continue to monitor the situation closely. As previously communicated, VicPD is not providing traffic control or escort services. We continue to encourage participants to remain on the Legislature grounds and adjacent sidewalks to reduce safety risks for demonstrators, motorists, and the broader public. Interrupting traffic creates significant safety risks, as it places demonstrators and motorists in unpredictable situations where visibility, reaction time, and driver behaviour can lead to serious harm.

Officers will respond as required to ensure public safety. We thank the public and participants for their continued cooperation.
