Hit And Run Leaves Trail Of Vehicle Parts From Downtown To James Bay

Date: Wednesday, November 17th, 2021File: 21-46042Victoria, BC – Investigators are asking for information and surveillance video after an early morning single vehicle hit and run left a trail of debris and vehicle parts from downtown to James Bay.Patrol officers were called to a multi-unit residential building in the 1800-block of Government Street just before 3:30 a.m. this morning after a resident was awoken by an extremely loud noise and the building shaking. The resident initially believed that an earthquake was taking place, and when it seemed safe they exited their building and discovered extensive damage from a motor vehicle collision.Evidence at the scene indicates that the vehicle left the roadway at high speed and entered the sidewalk, striking several items. The impact of the collision flung a concrete garbage bin through a nearby building window and destroyed a parking post. The entire exhaust was ripped from the vehicle during the crash. The driver fled the area in the vehicle, leaving a trail of debris and leaking fluids behind.Officers followed the trail and located the vehicle approximately 2.5 kilometers away, parked behind a multi-unit residential building in the 100-block of Menzies Street. The vehicle was seized and towed to impound. It is unknown if the driver of the vehicle was injured.Officers are working to locate the driver of the vehicle. They are asking anyone with information or surveillance video from the area between the 1800-block of Government Street to the 100-block of Menzies Street from this morning to review their footage and call the VicPD Report Desk.
