Interrupted Break And Enter Prompts Reminder To Lock Doors

File: 20-30275Victoria, BC – Officers are reminding the public to secure doors and windows despite the warm summer weather after a woman interrupted a man breaking into her residence last night.Shortly before 11 p.m. on July 29th, Patrol officers were called to a suite in a multi-unit residential building in the 700-block of Tyee Road for a report of a break and enter that had just been interrupted. A woman reported that she confronted an unknown man who attempted to open her locked patio door, which was on the ground level. The woman confronted the man through the patio door, and the man then attempted to open an adjacent door to the suite which was secured. The man then moved to a neighbouring unit and attempted to access the patio door, which was locked. The man left the scene before officers arrived.The suspect is described as a 35-year-old Caucasian man standing six feet tall. The suspect wore a black hoodie, and a burgundy hat with a white symbol on it.This incident serves as a reminder to properly secure doors and windows, despite summer weather when entryways can often be left open.If you have information about this incident, you are asked to call the VicPD non-Emergency line at (250) 995-7654 and select option 1 for the report desk.
