Investigators Seek Witnesses To Nine Suspicious Fires

Files: 20-9810, 20-10604, 20-12235, 20-13420, 20-14007, 20-14383, 20-14630, 20-14923Victoria, BC – Investigators are asking for public assistance in gathering information related to nine suspicious fires which occurred throughout March and early April.The fires occurred in Victoria and Esquimalt and investigators believe that all of these fires were set intentionally. No one was injured in relation to any of these suspicious fires. It is unknown at this time if these incidents are related.File: 20-9810At approximately 3:20 a.m. on March 5th, 2020, officers were called to a garbage can fire in the 600-block of Courtenay Street. While on scene at that location, officers were called to a second garbage can fire in the 600-block of Fort Street. Both garbage cans sustained fire damage.File: 20-10604At approximately 11 a.m. on March 10th, 2020, officers were called to a report of a sign on fire at a construction site in the 1100-block of Colville Road. A plastic sign was damaged by the fire.File: 20-12235At approximately 11:20 p.m. on March 20th, 2020, officers were called to the intersection of Rockland Avenue and Linden Avenue for a report of cardboard boxes on fire in the roadway. Nothing was damaged in the fire.File: 20-13420At approximately 11 p.m. on March 28th, 2020, officers were called to the petting zoo area of Beacon Hill Park for a report of a vehicle on fire. A silver, 2018 GMC Sierra, sustained significant fire damage to the interior cab of the vehicle.File: 20-14007At approximately 10 p.m. on April 2nd, 2020, officers were called to a report of branches and cardboard on fire on the sidewalk in the 3000-block of Douglas Street. Nothing was damaged by the fire.File: 20-14383At approximately 2 a.m. on April 5th, 2020, officers were called to a report of a tire rack on fire in the 1600-block of Fairfield Road. A tire rack with tires and a hedge sustained fire damage.File: 20-14630At approximately 10 p.m. on April 6th, 2020, officers were called to a report of a dumpster on fire in the 600-block of Pembroke Street. The dumpster sustained fire damage.File: 20-14923At approximately 2:15 a.m. on April 9th, 2020, officers were called to a report of a garbage can fire in the 500-block of Chatham Street. The garbage can sustained fire damage.Investigators are appealing to the public for any information that you may have in relation to these suspicious fires.In addition, please remember to secure items such as garbage cans and dumpsters to prevent crime. Keep combustibles such as branches and cardboard away from businesses and residences, and remember to turn on exterior building lights at night to increase visibility in the area.If you have information about any of these incidents, you are asked to call our non-emergency line at (250) 995-7654.
