Man Banned From City Parks Arrested After Fire

Date: Wednesday, November 4, 2020File: 20-43809Victoria, BC – A man wanted on an outstanding unendorsed warrant, who was the subject of conditions not to be in City of Victoria parks, was arrested yesterday after a report that he set a fire within a tent in Beacon Hill Park.At approximately 7:30 a.m. yesterday morning, Patrol officers received a report that a man had started a fire within a tent in Beacon Hill Park. Officers attended, along with the Victoria Fire Department, who extinguished the fire. There was minimal damage caused by the fire and no one was injured.The man who was reported to have started the fire had left the area prior to police arrival. Officers investigated and identified the man, who was the subject of an unendorsed warrant for breach of probation. The man was also the subject of conditions of an undertaking which prohibited him from being found within any City of Victoria Park. These conditions stemmed from a July incident in which the man was reported to have uttered threats to a woman in Beacon Hill Park. The man was arrested a day after that incident and released on conditions, including a no-go to any park in the City of Victoria.Several hours after the fire incident, at approximately 12:30 p.m., officers located and arrested the man in the 1000-block of Sutlej Street. Officers transported the man to cells where he was held for court.
