Man In Custody After Handgun Call

File: 20-10886Victoria, BC - A man is in custody after Patrol officers responded to a report that someone with a handgun had been uttering threats.Patrol officers were called to a multi-unit residential building in the 700-block of Queens Avenue just after 6 p.m. last night for a report that a man had "flashed" a handgun and uttered threatening statements at a building in the area.The man was seen entering the nearby multi-unit residential building in the 700-block of Queens Avenue and making his way to a unit there. Investigating officers discovered that the man was seen with a handgun tucked into the waistband of his pants. Officers recognized the man, contacted him, and began the process of negotiating his safe and peaceful surrender.The man surrendered to Patrol officers just after 8 p.m. and was taken into custody without incident. There were no physical injuries in the incident.Patrol officers then secured the unit and remained on scene while additional Patrol officers prepared a search warrant. Once the search warrant was approved, officers searched the unit and discovered evidence, including a replica handgun.The man was held in custody for morning court. Officers are recommending charges of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and uttering threats.
