Man In Custody After Shots Fired Call

File: 20-20806Victoria, BC – One man is in custody as officers investigate a shots fired call in the 1200-block of Yates Street this morning.Officers responded after just after 6 a.m. this morning for a report that at least one gunshot was fired through a wall of a nearby suite in a multi-unit residential building. The suite was home to a young family who were sleeping at the time.  It is not believed that this family was targeted.Patrol officers responded, and due the potential risks, evacuated nearby residents. The Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team (GVERT), including Crisis Negotiators, were deployed.Negotiators made contact with the suspect in the suite where the gunshot was believed to be fired from. He was uncooperative with attempts to resolve the incident.  GVERT officers forced open the suspect’s door and the suspect surrendered without incident.There were no injuries.The investigation remains ongoing. The man remains in custody.
