Man On Roller Blades, Carrying Hockey Stick, Arrested After Toque Robbery

Date: Tuesday, March 15, 2022File: 22-9538Victoria, BC – Patrol officers arrested a hockey stick-wielding man on roller blades yesterday after he robbed a woman of her toque in Victoria.Shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Monday, March 14th, Patrol officers were called to the area of Government and Belleville streets for a report that a man on roller blades was striking garbage cans with a hockey stick. A second caller reported the same man causing a disturbance and striking windows of a nearby business with the hockey stick. The man did not break the windows.As officers were en route to the call, a third person reported that the hockey stick-wielding man on roller blades chased her on the sidewalk near Government and Broughton streets. The suspect approached the victim from behind, pushed the back of her head, and stole her toque. The suspect then fled the area on roller blades. The victim was not injured in the incident.Officers located the suspect in the area of Trounce Alley. The suspect attempted to evade police by roller blading around a police car. However, officers on foot caught the suspect. The suspect was taken to the ground and arrested without further incident. The suspect was not injured during the arrest.Officers transported the suspect to VicPD cells where he was held for a bail hearing.
