Multiple Officers Assaulted In Long Weekend Arrests

Files: 20-30531, 20-30635, 20-30847Victoria, BC – Multiple officers were assaulted in separate incidents over the long weekend.Mischief suspect kicks officerAt approximately 11 p.m. on Friday, July 31st, Patrol officers were called to a multi-unit temporary housing facility in the 100-block of Gorge Road East for a report that a violent woman was being verbally and physically aggressive at that location. Officers attended and located the woman, who continued to be verbally aggressive and refused to leave the property. She was arrested.Once the woman was inside the police vehicle she assaulted one of the arresting officers, kicking the officer in the body. The officer, who received non-life-threatening injuries, was able to complete her shift. The woman was transported to cells and faces recommended charges of assaulting a peace officer, mischief, and possession of a controlled substance.Woman in crisis spits in officer’s faceAt approximately 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 1st, Patrol officers responded to a report that a woman was in crisis and causing harm to herself in the 2400-block of Douglas Street.Officers located the woman and took her into protective custody under the Mental Health Act to transport her to medical care.While officers were taking the woman into custody, the woman spat in the face of one officer, and struck and spat on another officer. Both officers received non-life-threatening injuries and were able to complete their shift. Due the potential exposure to COVID-19 and other infectious diseases, the officers will be required to conduct medical monitoring and follow-up as required.The woman was arrested for two counts of assaulting a peace officer and one count of obstructing a peace officer.Violent man assaults three officersShortly before 3 p.m. on Monday, August 3rd, Patrol officers were called to a report of a man using a metal pole to break a bus stop window near the intersection of Quadra Street and Hillside Avenue. Due to the risk to the public and officers, multiple officers attended the scene. As officers moved to arrest the man, he began to fight with them. The man assaulted three officers before he was taken into custody. During the arrest, oleoresin capsicum spray was deployed, but was ineffective. The man was finally taken into custody with the help of a conducted energy weapon.The three officers each suffered non-life-threatening injuries. All were able to complete their shifts.The suspect suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital for assessment. He was seen by a physician and then transported to VicPD cells where he was held for morning court.The man faces recommended charges of three counts of assaulting a peace officer, resisting arrest, and mischief.
