One Woman Arrested, Weapons And Stolen Bike Seized

File: 20-16354Victoria, BC – A Community Services Division (CSD) officer arrested one woman and seized weapons and a stolen bike on Saturday evening.At approximately 5:30 p.m. on April 18th, a CSD officer on patrol in Topaz Park observed a woman in possession of a bike that was stolen the previous day during a break and enter in Saanich. The bike, a purple Juliana Joplin full suspension mountain bike, was valued at approximately $8,000. The woman did not have a lawful reason for being in possession of the stolen bike.The officer arrested the woman for possession of stolen property. The officer searched the woman subsequent to the arrest and located weapons, including a collapsible steel baton, a knife, and a hatchet. The woman was prohibited from possessing weapons. In addition, the woman was prohibited from possessing bikes without written permission.The woman faces recommended charges of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, failure to comply with a probation order, and failure to comply with an undertaking.The bike was returned to the owner.This arrest and recovery of a stolen bike highlights some of the proactive work officers are doing to combat a rising trend in property crime in the Topaz Park area. In the area around Topaz Park, VicPD has seen an increase in property crime from six reported property crime incidents in the week of March 15-21st to 20 in the week of April 12-18th. Officers will continue to focus their efforts on targeting areas with rising crime trends.
