Patrol Officers Rescue Thrill Seeker From Waters Off Dallas Road

Date: Monday, January 13th 2020File: 20-1898Victoria, BC – A Victoria man has been warned about the risks of entering stormy waters unprepared after Patrol officers, Victoria Fire Department firefighters, B.C. Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) paramedics and passersby all teamed up to rescue him on Sunday afternoon.Patrol officers were called to the 300-block of Dallas Road just after 3:30 p.m. yesterday for a report of a man in distress in the water. When they arrived, officers spotted the man in the water off of Dallas Road and passersby attempting to reach him with a line. Officers, with the assistance of Victoria Fire Department firefighters, passersby, and BCEHS paramedics, were able to get the man out of the water and into a waiting ambulance.The man and witnesses reported to officers that he was attempting to capture video footage of the waves along Dallas Road and had leapt into the water, despite the risks posed by the weather. Waves were breaking over Dallas Road at the time of the incident. In speaking with the man, officers underscored the risks that his actions had placed both himself and others in.The man was not injured in the incident and declined further medical attention.No charges have been laid.
