Six Suspicious Long Weekend Fires Under Investigation

Files: 20-15386, 20-15378, 20-15457, 20-15488, 20-15590, 20-15575Victoria, BC – Investigators are asking for public assistance in gathering information related to six suspicious fires which occurred over the Easter long weekend.This request comes a week after investigators alerted the public to nine suspicious fires in Victoria and Esquimalt, which occurred throughout March and early April. The investigation into these incidents remains ongoing. No one was injured in relation to any of these suspicious fires. It is unknown at this time if these incidents are related.File: 20-15378At approximately 9:45 a.m. on April 12th, 2020, Patrol officers were called to a dumpster fire in the 3000-block of Blanshard Street. The dumpster sustained fire damage.File: 20-15386At approximately 11 a.m. on April 12th, 2020, Patrol officers were called to a dumpster fire in the 2800-block of Irma Street. The dumpster sustained fire damage.File: 20-15457At approximately 10:15 p.m. on April 12th, 2020, a Patrol officer observed a cedar hedge on fire in the 900-block of Topaz Avenue. The Patrol officer deployed a fire extinguisher to stop the spread of the fire. Victoria Fire attended and extinguished the remaining fire. The cedar hedge sustained fire damage.File: 20-15488At approximately 8:15 a.m. on April 13th, 2020, Patrol officers were called to a shed fire in the 400-block of Parry Street. The fire spread to the garage of an adjacent property in the 500-block of Michigan Street. Both the shed and the garage sustained fire damage.File: 20-15590At approximately 10:45 p.m. on April 13th, 2020, Patrol officers were called to a report of a tent fire in the 500-block of Ellice Street. Multiple tents sustained fire damage. No one was injured.File: 20-15575At approximately 10:30 p.m. on April 13th, 2020, Patrol officers were called to a report of a large area of burned grass in the 500-block of Toronto Street. Investigators believe that the damage occurred within a twenty four hour period of the call for police service. A residential lawn sustained fire damage.Please remember to secure items such as garbage cans and dumpsters to prevent crime. Keep combustibles such as branches and cardboard away from businesses and residences, and remember to turn on exterior building lights at night to increase visibility in the area.
