Suspect Sought, Public Warned After Significant Esquimalt Mail Theft

Date: Friday, October 30, 2020File: 20-43144Victoria, BC – Officers are warning the public while they search for a suspect in a significant mail theft in Esquimalt yesterday.Just after 6 a.m. on Thursday, October 29th, officers were called to investigate a theft in a multi-unit residential building in the 800-block of Dunsmuir Road. Officers learned that the suspect had broken into 77 resident mailboxes as well as the manager’s office. Several items, including a laptop and mail were stolen.Mail can be targeted in attempts to compromise people’s identities for use in frauds. Officers are working with the residents of the building to help warn them about the potential fraud attempts.
