Date: Thursday, May 8, 2025 File: 25-15213Victoria, B.C. – Expect Road closures and traffic disruptions along Esquimalt Road this Saturday as people gather to celebrate the annual Buccaneer Days parade, with the Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) deployed for monitoring. There will be road closures along Esquimalt Road on Saturday, May 10, from approximately 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with detours in effect. The parade will begin on Dominion Road at approximately 10:00 a.m., continue along Esquimalt Road, and conclude at Admirals Road around two hours later. VicPD officers and reserve constables will be deployed for traffic control and to help ensure the safety of parade participants and community members during this event. As with previous events, this work will include the use of the RPAS to support our operations and help maintain public safety. The deployment of the RPAS is an integral part of VicPD’s efforts to support community safety and is in accordance with B.C. and national privacy legislation. The RPAS camera does not record by default. If recordings need to take place to gather evidence, or capture an incident, the public will be notified, and that data will be stored for 30 days or longer. No information will be collected during the event unless a criminal investigation or public disorder incident occurs. If you have concerns, please email [email protected].
