CCTV Cameras Deployed & Roads Closed For 2023 Victoria Pride Parade

Date: Thursday, July 6, 2023 File: 23-23372 Victoria, BC – CCTV cameras have been deployed and roads will be closed from Chinatown, through Downtown and along the Inner Harbour into James Bay as Victoria celebrates this year’s Pride Parade Sunday. As with previous years and events this year, we have deployed temporary, monitored CCTV cameras in support of our operations to ensure public safety on Sunday, July 9 during the Pride Parade. The temporary, monitored CCTV cameras help us keep those participating in the Pride Parade safe by assisting our efforts to control traffic and keep the parade route clear, and by allowing us to respond to any potential public safety incidents in a timely manner. The cameras are not recorded by default and no information is collected during the event unless a criminal investigation or public safety incident occurs. Given recent incidents targeting public gatherings around the world, both the use of these cameras and officers’ attendance are part of our duty to ensure that everyone can celebrate a safe, happy, and joyful event. If you have questions or concerns about our temporary CCTV camera deployment, please email [email protected]. This year’s Pride Parade features a new route with marshalling areas in Chinatown before the parade steps off. Road closures will be in effect in the marshalling area at 7 a.m. Road closures along the parade route into MacDonald Park start just after 10 a.m. and are expected to last until approximately 12:30 p.m.

Officers will work to minimize disruptions as much as possible. VicPD officers and staff are proud to walk in the Changemakers portion of the Pride Parade as part of the Greater Victoria Police Diversity Advisory Committee (GVPDAC) team.
