Information Sought After Suspicious Incident

Date: Thursday, August 24, 2023 File: 23-29682 Victoria, BC – Officers are asking for the public’s assistance identifying a vehicle and driver involved in a suspicious incident. In the early morning of August 13, a woman was waiting for a rideshare vehicle when she was approached by a man in a vehicle in the 1900-block of Store Street. The man indicated that he was there to take her home and she believed he was her requested rideshare. While she was inside of the vehicle, the driver told the woman he was taking her back to his place. Realizing this was not her ordered rideshare, the woman was able to safely exit the vehicle a few blocks away. The vehicle is believed to be a grey, four-door sedan, possibly a 2013 to 2018 model Nissan Altima with tinted windows. The driver is described as a dark-skinned man, 20-40 years old, with a slim build, short black hair, and a trimmed beard. A photo of the vehicle is below:

This incident remains under investigation. Investigators are looking to speak with the driver and witnesses and are asking anyone that may have experienced a similar incident to contact the E-Comm Report Desk at (250) 995-7654 extension 1.   1. Confirm your rideshare vehicle and driver details before getting in using the booking information provided in the rideshare app (vehicle make/model/colour, license plate and photograph of the driver). 

  1. Look for the company logo displayed on the rideshare vehicle (usually on the front and rear windshield of the vehicle while it is in service). 

  1. Share your trip details, including your location and ETA, with a friend using this feature in the rideshare app. 

  1. Look for our officers downtown as a part of the “Late Night Great Night” program on Friday and Saturday nights. If someone or something is making you feel unsafe, reach out and report it. 

  1. Check out the resources from “Good Night Out Victoria,” a non-profit society that offers education and training on gendered and sexualized violence prevention to liquor serving establishments to keep both patrons and staff safe(r). Vancouver Island — Good Night Out Vancouver.
