Mother Located And Autopsy Completed After Death of Newborn Baby

Date: Friday, April 28, 2023 File: 23-14947 Victoria, BC – The mother of a newborn baby that was found deceased on Wednesday evening, has been located and is receiving medical care and support.  Investigators were concerned for the welfare of the mother after a newborn baby was found deceased in the parking lot of the 700-block of Bay Street on Wednesday evening. It is believed that the baby was recently born, possibly in the area where it was found. An autopsy was completed this morning which concluded that the baby died of natural causes. The circumstances are still under investigation by VicPD’s Major Crimes Unit and further details cannot be shared at this time. VicPD offers support to officers and staff members who are exposed to traumatic events that may affect their psychological health and well-being through their Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) and Peer Support teams.
