Date: Wednesday, November 25, 2020File: 20-46581Victoria, BC – A woman remains in hospital after she was struck by a driver opening their vehicle door this afternoon.VicPD Traffic officers were called to the intersection of Oak Bay Avenue at Fell Street just after noon today for a report that a cyclist on an e-bike had been knocked from her bicycle when a parked driver opened their vehicle door. Despite wearing a helmet, the cyclist suffered non-life-threatening injuries, was treated on scene, and then transported to hospital by BC Emergency Health Services paramedics.A ticket was issued to the driver under B.C.’s new “dooring” legislation, facing a fine of $368.Dooring occurs is when a driver or passenger opens a car door unsafely into the path of oncoming traffic, resulting in a collision or swerving. Dooring can lead to serious injuries or even death, particularly for cyclists.
