VicPD Investigating Early Morning Collision That Sent Driver To Hospital

Date: Wednesday, May 1, 2024 File: 24-14863 Victoria, BC – Just after 1:00 a.m. this morning, officers conducting patrols in the downtown area came across a single-vehicle collision in the 600-block of Hillside Avenue. It was determined that the vehicle struck a venting pipe and utility control box causing considerable damage to the vehicle and road infrastructure. The 2600-block of Government Street was closed for several hours while Traffic Analysts and Patrol officers investigated the collision. Due to the large amount of debris, City of Victoria Public Works staff attended to assist with clean up and street sweeps of the roadway and bike lanes. The scene was cleared, and roadways reopened just before 7:00 a.m. this morning. 

The 2600-Block Of Government Street Was Closed For Several Hours Due To The Collision 

The driver was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Officers continue to investigate to determine the cause of the collision and speed is believed to be a factor.  This investigation is still in the initial stages.
