Witnesses Sought After Suspicious Fire Damages Home

Date: Saturday, September 3, 2022File: 22-33611Victoria, BC – Investigators are asking for witnesses and anyone with surveillance footage to come forward after an early morning fire caused extensive damage to an occupied Burnside-Gorge home.Patrol officers responded to a fully-engulfed house fire in the 500-block of Sumas Street just after 4 a.m. this morning. Victoria Fire Department firefighters arrived and worked to contain the flames. Officers confirmed the residents who had been in the house had been safely evacuated and assisted in evacuating nearby homes in case the flames spread.Preliminary investigation indicates that the fire is suspicious. Despite the extensive damage to the home, no one was physically hurt.Investigators are asking anyone with surveillance cameras in the area to check their footage and anyone with information about the fire to call the VicPD Report Desk at (250) 995-7654 extension 1.
