Victoria, B.C. - Costumes? Check. Candy? Check. Traffic detours? Check.

Downtown Victoria is getting wicked this Sunday, October 25, for the 12th Annual Thrifty Foods Wicked Victoria! With creative costumes, live music, local vendors and plenty of Halloween fun, it’s sure to be a busy day downtown.

VicPD officers, Reserve Constables and volunteers will be on hand to help manage traffic, support pedestrians, and keep the festivities safe for everyone.

Road Closures and Traffic Impacts

Road closures will be in effect from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 25, including:

  • Government Street: Between Yates Street and Broughton Street.
  • Government Street and Fort Street: Expect traffic impacts in this area.
  • Langley Street and Bastion Square: Expect traffic impacts in this area.
  • Government Street and Broughton Street: Expect traffic impacts in this area.

Crosswalks will be managed by event volunteers and VicPD. Drivers should plan, allow extra travel time, follow posted signage and directions from officers, and consider an alternate route around the event area.

A Few Safety Tips

We want everyone to have a fun time downtown. A few simple reminders can help keep the day fun and safe:

  • Pick a meeting spot: If you’re attending with children, choose a meeting place in case you get separated. Make sure kids know how to find a police officer or event volunteer who can help.
  • Keep little ones close: Crowds can get busy. Keep children within sight and hold their hands when crossing streets.
  • Cross safely: Use designated crosswalks, follow directions from event volunteers and VicPD, and never assume drivers can see you.
  • Stay aware: Keep an eye on your surroundings and your belongings. Secure valuables and keep bags close.
  • Trust your instincts: If something seems out of place or makes you uncomfortable, move to a safe location and let a VicPD officer or Reserve Constable know.
  • See something? Say something! Report suspicious activity, unattended items or safety concerns to an officer or Reserve Constable on site. You can also call the VicPD non-emergency line at 250-995-7654 extension 1. If there is an immediate threat or emergency, call 9-1-1.
  • Dress for the weather: Bring warm layers and rain gear, and make sure costumes, masks and accessories don’t block your vision or make it difficult to move safely.

VicPD is proud to support this much-loved community tradition and looks forward to another memorable Wicked Victoria.

Have fun, look out for one another and enjoy the Halloween spirit!
