Inner Harbour Community Concert Traffic, CCTV/RPAS Advisory

Victoria, B.C. – The Victoria Police Department (VicPD) is advising that temporary road closures will be in place causing traffic disruptions around Victoria’s inner harbour for the David Foster and Friends Concert, which is part of the David Foster Foundation’s 40th anniversary celebrations.
Organizers of the event will begin setting up on Friday, August 7 – which is a day in advance of the concert. The 500 block of Belleville Street will close to traffic at 7:00 a.m. and remain closed through Sunday, August 9. On Friday, street level parking will also be closed in the 700 block of Government Street.
On Saturday, August 8, road closures will expand around the B.C. Legislature grounds. The 600 block of Government Street (between Superior and Belleville) will close at 3:00 p.m., and the remaining closures will take effect around 4:30 p.m. at Belleville Street (from Douglas to Menzies), Government Street (from Belleville to Humboldt), and Menzies Street (from Belleville to Quebec).
The concert, featuring a drone and firework finale, runs from 7:30 p.m. to 10:15 p.m. and is expected to attract tens of thousands of spectators.
VicPD Special Duty officers will be on-site to manage traffic and public safety. Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras and a Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) will assist in monitoring crowds and traffic flow, and in identifying any safety concerns quickly. RPAS recordings will only be made in the event of a criminal investigation or public disorder.
Two reunification areas for any missing children or vulnerable persons will be located at the base of the Royal B.C. Museum’s clock tower and the main entrance to the Fairmont Empress Hotel.
